Like Mother Like Daughter: Baby Bug Loves Cats

I think it must be universal that all children love animals. Maybe it’s a basic instinct for survival… just in case they have to be raised by wolves or something. I don’t know. I’m just making that up. But seriously, every kid I know loves cats. Every kid that ever comes over to visit us goes running after our cats…as the cat’s make a mad dash for the depths of our closet or underneath our bed. The poor cats. Unfortunately the cat/kid love is not mutual.

Baby Bug loves cats. She has long conversations with Pounce and Lily when they are eating kibble at their food bowl. When they walk out of the room (as they often do, the snobs), she cries real tears. She can’t understand why they don’t want to pay attention to her adoringly like everybody else does. Sometimes I trick Lily and put a tiny bowl of cream nearby Baby Bug’s exersaucer. This makes Baby bug ecstatic. She jumps and waves her arms straight out beside her with corresponding grunts of excitement. This annoys the cats. They know that soon she’ll be released from her confines and their comfortable life of lazing around will be over.

Felix: I think she likes the stuffed cat you got her.

Coming Soon: A movie of Toby and Baby Bug speaking in tongues… as soon as I get my act together.

BB is getting cuter and cuter every day! What expressions she has, too. Looks like her kitty will be one of her favorites, if not already.

I’m with Aunt Kathy. Baby bug just gets cuter and cuter. She’s got perfect baby features. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s got nothing on Baby Bug.

That baby is SOOO cute! And I’ve always said she is the cutest baby I know…but she has some competition now…I have a brand-new niece! She’s pretty cute, too! But, I think there’s enough room in the world for two adorable babies. : )

Okay, on to my real comment…actually a question. So you have two cats…we have three that I’ve had since I was in college that I adore. Now that we’re starting to think about kids there’s always that underlying “scare” about babies and cats and blah blah blah. What’s your take on this?

I should find some links… there have been studies done that prove that introducing your baby to alergens early is actually good for them so that they don’t become allergic later. The cats steer clear of the baby. She would love it if they came closer but her screeching cries seem to keep them away. So far no trouble. I’m a little worried about when she learns to crawl though.

    Good to know.

Also, what do you think about the disease…what’s it called…can’t remember. Basically, where they recommend that pregnant women stay completely away from the litter boxes, etc because exposure to something in the cat’s feces could cause birth defects?

I’m feeling pretty good about the babies as they get older. We babysat our neighbors son at around 1 1/2 years who was a tail-puller…the cats just looked at him and walked away. Whew! Glad to know that one early! ; )

My granddaughter is 5 and still loves stuffed kittys. I don’t think she ever met a stuffed kitty she didn’t love. And of course as Grandma I HAVE to spoil her and buy every stuffed kitty she sees. It’s my job and I do it well. Ha ha.

BTW congrats on the slick car! Must be something in the air because we bought a new car last week. I didn’t geta red one though. :-(

Awww…but my fav is actually the squawker photo with her hands up in the air! They can look so cute when they furrow their brows and show a little irritation with a few well placed squawks.
