Bug

Gymnastics!

gymnastics

Did I tell you? Bug is in gymnastics! That’s her on the right in black on the balance beam. Wait for a minute, you’ll see her highlighted. I’d take a better photo but I think they have a no-photography policy at this gym. I am so excited that she’s involved in some sort of activity again.

Ballet practice sort of fizzled out a long time ago when I realized that the ballet studio was taking money directly out of my checking account when we were on vacation. I’m sure it was some small print I failed to read but what I thought was a super good deal turned out to not be a deal at all. Too bad too because it was really nice having fun classes for Bug to take within walking distance. She does miss them but mama’s budget can only support so many activities.

So now I’m paying for gymnastics lessons and I feel pretty good about it. The lessons are serious business. Not like scary coaches yelling but really good one-on-one training. The teachers treat every child like they might be a future olympian. Which they might! The gym is huuuuge. I wouldn’t be surprised if some Olympians did train there.

So far she’s learned the “pizza hang” and the “possum hang” on the bars—which is basically a straddle hang and a sideways hang… If you know us in real life I’m sure she’s already told you all about it. She’s very proud of herself.

I always wanted to take gymnastics when I was a kid. I’m still to this day ashamed that I never could do a cartwheel. Bug calls them “cartonwheels.” So I’m super happy Bug might break that cycle. She seems to take to it pretty well. But it’s only been two classes so we’ll see.

When I was a kid, most of my friends were in gymnastics and dance but I was too shy. I attempted to take a gymnastics class when I was a bit older (about 10) but when we got to the community center we were told that the class had been rescheduled and no one had told us, so I’d already missed three classes. I gave up after that. Eh, I can do cartwheels. What more do I really need to know? ;-)

I’m glad Bug is enjoying it so far!

I wonder why they don’t allow photography. I mean I would understand no flash in case someone falls but we like seeing cute photos!

And yeah Isabelle’s ballet class takes a monthly amount even if we do not attend. They do make up classes though. But I don’t know how that works. And at her ballet demonstration the other week, before the advanced students came on, the teacher said they attended 5 days a week or some crazy amount.

I’m really happy Isabelle is enjoying ballet but ummmm 5 days a week?!? Um no thank you.

Very cool…but the flashing bubble kinda freaked me out for a minute. How on earth did you do that?
That gym looks pretty impressive too.

I can’t do a cartwheel either! One of my biggest regrets in life is not learning as a kid because I sure am not going to learn how to at 30.

Last year I started watching the TV show Make It Or Break It. Seriously? I do not want to raise an Olympic athlete, maybe a snowboarder, but not a gymnast! We do have a great gym in our town, so I do plan to let Tumblebug try when he is older.

Hi I can’t do a cart wheel either and a succsessful handstand only against a wall or a in water. I regret not learning how to do one too as it reminds me about how litte confidence I had as a kid. I love watching the gymnasts during the Olymipcs seeing their lithe bodies fling themselves ocver and over and twirl in the air. I know in another life maybe I could do this… but for this one I can draw people twriling through the air.

I am loving that Bug is learning gym so young, it will give her loads of confidence in her body. Later on you might find a place teaching circus skills to little kids too.

Looks like J’s old gym, except without the Canadian Flag hanging on the wall :). Apple will be starting up this Fall as she is already a gymnast in the backyard, so I would like to keep her going with it. Maybe we will try ballet later on because she already walks on her does en pointe.
