TEN years!

us

Wow. What do you say for your ten-year anniversary? I woke up at midnight and quietly tiptoed back to Toby’s office to wish him a happy anniversary while he worked. After a sweet hug, we both stood there kinda sheepish.

“I didn’t really get you anything special.”

“That’s okay, neither did I.”

I think that sums up ten years. Either that or this.

Here is my favourite poem for 10 years together: it sums up how comfortable things can get in a long relationship, but still meet your need fully. Written by Amy Lowell.

    A Decade

When you came, you were like red wine and honey,
And the taste of you burnt my mouth with its sweetness.
Now you are like morning bread,
    Smooth and pleasant.
I hardly taste you at all for I know your savour,
    But I am completely nourished.

Congrats. I’m so glad you posted that link, all I can hear in my head when someone says 10 years is Piven shouting, “Ten years, man, ten years!”

Happy ten years to you and Toby. :)

We’re like that. Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas…we rarely do presents for each other (and when we do they’re either a silly token like a pizza cutter or something we were going to buy anyway). And forget about wrapping it (I’m not quite as talented in that vein as you are)!

We’re very laid back. He counts his lucky stars for the stress he’s spared…and so do I. Actually, it took us ten years to get around to getting married. :P

Congrats, that’s awesome! Funny, Kassie posted something very close to what I was thinking above, guess it’s good we’re together or that would be creepy.

TEN YEARS! You’re experts! That’s my psychologist friend told me when my oldest daughter turned 10. That after you’ve done something consistently for ten years, you’re an expert. Or something like that. Feel free not to quote me on it. :)

    Happy Anniversary & many more!

OK, I’m a dork so I had to investigate further. From Wikipedia:

“Many accounts of the development of expertise emphasize that it comes about through long periods of deliberate practice. In many domains of expertise estimates of 10 years experience or 10,000 hours deliberate practice are common.”

I’ve been following along on your blog for most of this year. I can’t remember exactly how I came across it, but that doesn’t matter. Bug has captured my heart. If I had a little girl, I would want her to be as cute. I know…there are downsides, but hey, I’m dreaming here.

Congratulations on 10 years with Toby! That is an awesome testament. May the Lord continue to bless you and yours.

Congratulations on ten years of marriage! What a beautiful couple you were – I love that photo. You do realize that your wedding dress doesn’t even look out of style after TEN YEARS, man, TEN YEARS!

It is a big deal. It’s a really big deal. We had ours in January and went out for a fancy dinner while grandma and grandpa babysat our 10-month-old. I sat there with tears streaming down my cheeks because I “have nothing to offer”. I did get him a card, but nothing else. He sat there with tears in his eyes and said “I feel the same way.”

It was poignant and beautiful. Felt so good to “have nothing to offer” and yet have it all.

Clink! I am raising my glass along with BEYOND’S comment above. Clink! Clink!

    Happy Anniversary~

I know I haven’t commented much in a long long time.. but I still think of you Bug and Toby and keep you in my prayers.

It’s a beautiful thing to read you are celebrating your tenth anniversary.

Congratultions. And OMG, you look so young. And that’s funny to me, because in the today shots you look so young, so in that one, you look like a kid. I’m afraid to look at my wedding photos (it will be 12 years this year) to see how young I look now.

Happy Belated 10 Year Anniversary, SAJ & Toby! That’s a decade! I was also going to say what Kassie & Joe said about the clip. It’s one of my favorites and no one seems to get it when I act it out myself!–Erin
