adventures in babysitting,  I'm an idiot

7 Days: Day 1 – Just another day in the life…

7days Summer Day 1

Seven days is starting up again and since nobody complained about seeing my ugly mug (and feet and backside) for a week last time, I figured I could post my self-portraits here again. But don’t worry, I’ll try to throw in a few cuties of Bug too. So here I am playing the piano at the kids’ house I babysit. They just bought this house and it is amazing. We spent the whole day outside in the pool.

Which was so very fun until I decided to take my waterproof camera in the pool for some underwater photography. I got some good shots but then my camera leaked and my poor poor dumb waterproof camera died. I’m hoping if it dries out enough it will magically come back, you know like some cellphones do when you accidentally drop them in the toilet. Not that I know anything about that.

Before you agree with me about how dumb my waterproof camera is, I should probably share that a while back I accidentally dropped this camera and busted it on two corners where the battery and memory cards are inserted. So maybe immersing this camera in pool water wasn’t the best idea. I thought the seals were still water-tight but apparently they were not. Woe is me.

I’m hoping that whopping expensive warranty I paid for when I bought it will count for something. I don’t know if it covers user idiocy error though.

N and A

But hey aren’t these underwater photos cool?

us

I had a lot of fun swimming and splashing around today. I would say we had a lot of fun swimming but Bug refused to go in the water. I don’t know what’s up with her. She loves swimming (or splashing around on the steps and scaring the crap out of me by pretending to swim) but today she was suddenly overcome with fear. We cajoled her with water wings and promises of super fun floaty boat rides around the pool and she would have nothing of it. I’m thinking we need to go to the pool more often and get over that fear.

neon summer

Do you like my neon toes? They don’t really look that bright in this photo but they are. They practically glow in the dark. I can walk down dark paths lead only by the glow from my feet almost. This is what I bought myself for my birthday. Toby gave me $100 bucks to go buy a new outfit for my birthday but a fool and her money are soon parted and I somehow blew $28 at the nail salon instead. Now that I’ve been walking around in this crazy 80’s flashback color for a few days I’m thinking I would have liked a blouse (or at least half of one) better.

Ohh, I love the underwater pics! I would love to do that but I am absolutely terrified of opening my eyes underwater for some reason. The polish color doesn’t look that bad in the pic and that pool water looks magical!

That’s a bummer about the camera. But what cool pictures you got before it died. I totally want an underwater camera. But wait, how often am I underwater?! But if I had one then I’d find pools and go to the beach and and and…I’m just making excuses. It’s just so awesome, an underwater camera.

I was just reading that they’re coming out with the newest one, a W80. My sister goes through cameras pretty fast. I think she lets her son play with them or something so I told her about it. It’s supposedly safe to drop from 3 feet. Maybe that’s an option if you need a new one. Or did it drop from more than 3 feet?

SAJ says: No, I just dropped it from waist height…it fell out of my purse or something. I will have to look into that W80. :)

That piano shot is amazing. I love the play on all the dark and understated colours, and then the intensity of you playing. are you going to offer this for sale? it’s such a beautiful shot

SAJ says: Wow. Thanks! I don’t think so though. I don’t mind sharing my giant pear-butt with the world wide internet but asking people to buy a photo of it makes me skeered.

I LOVE those underwater photos! They’re amazing!! I’m also a big fan of your SP for Day 1.

    HAPPY (early? late?) BIRTHDAY!!

The offer still stands–we usually go to the pool every night right after our obscenely early dinner. Audrey’s gone from tightly clutching us too wanting to “swim” by herself. Any time you want to join us–we’ll BBQ and and build up some swimming confidence.

B, I sure hope it dries out or gets repaired because those UW shots are nice and clear! Wow their kids are growing up! I cooked my cold today poolside for about a half and hour and took a quick dip (not sure it helped, still got a cough).

BTW, the toes are great! (& that’s coming from a dude)

YAY for your pink toes!! And you still have $72 left for a blouse :).

Your self-portrait is amazing too. The new house must be amazing, the light coming in sure makes it look grand.

SAJ, I wouldn’t be scared…that piano shot is like a modern victorian shot. Almost like it’s out of a bronte book!

I had a pedicure for the first time the other month too. I think it was the best loving my feet ever had. Feet work so hard carrying us for A to B and back again to C they need some R & R from time to time. I think your toes look “purdy” and the colour very summery.

I’m a late developer regards nail polish on toes. Took me a long while to graduate from baby pink to bad-girl red. I blame a strict background ;)

I love the atmosphere of the top photo too.

toes are lookin’ totally cute! my son went thru a water fear phase too but then it passed after a few months. Happy summer!

Let’s not call it fear of the water, but do cultivate a healthy respect! Get her to realize her little body will float all by itself if you don’t use “floaties.” The first and biggest lesson is breathing…encourage her to blow bubbles in the water with her nose. This is the biggest hurdle. Next comes reaching for her toes while standing on the step. (Jellyfist) Her body will rise. Afterwards she will realize that getting her face wet is not so bad afterall…the rest comes easy.
